I started my new job this week and am loving it! Monday was (all day) orientation and then I actually started in my office on Tuesday. The people I work with are great! They're kind and funny and I immediately felt "at home". Today I met our Chief of Staff - very nice man (a doctor) who promised me roses if I stay a full two weeks! I guess lately they've had a hard time finding someone who will stay. The job is demanding, they tell me - but it feels great to be part of the "adult" world again!
I work inside Children's Hospital, which I absolutely love and am very excited about being there. I have decided that I am going to do some volunteer work - once I am able to talk with the volunteer coordinator. I have always wanted to volunteer in a pediatric ward, but never really took the time to make it happen. I thought, I'm here already, so one night a week I will just stay after work and help out! My dream has always been, once I retire, to volunteer at a Children's Hospital and help feed and rock the babies! I'm excited that I may be able to do that now! I'm sure they will use me in some capacity, but that's really my dream. As I walk around the hospital now, I see so many children! I can hardly wait to put my time to good use, helping them!
One thing about working on the hospital campus is that parking is a luxury! Since it's a teaching hospital and there are clinics on the campus, as well as the many different hospitals, parking is sometimes difficult! I have been assigned to a parking lot that is between 1/4 and 1/2 mile from my office! My boss asked me if I would like to get it changed to a garage which is closer but I thought this would be a great answer to my walking program which the doctor has asked me to begin - at 30 minutes a day! It's really not bad, although yesterday it was raining as I left, but I had my umbrella with me! This morning, I decided that instead of carrying my purse, I loaded my lunch, (my umbrella), my wallet and other necessary items into a backpack to carry! I wore my tennis shoes and just put my dress shoes into my pack back, too! It certainly made it easier to carry everything and my feet felt much better! I walked it Monday and Tuesday in my dress shoes with heels - not smart!
I am still trying to learn my way around the hospital. It's big with a lot of hallways and once I'm inside I can't tell one direction from another! I'm sure as time goes on I will get used to it! Saturday, Jody and I bought a car for me to drive to work since our pick-up is full size and uses a lot of gas! I am loving driving the car! So much easier to get around than in that big truck!
Today was such a blessed day and I'm thankful:
Thankful that I have a job, a job working with some great people and always thankful for my relationship with God!
If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:9-10
I am so glad to hear that you love your new job...and that you get to incorporate your exercise program into it. We miss you guys!
ReplyDeleteLove ya!

Ann,
ReplyDeleteI was so glad to read about your new job. Where are you in children's? I learned that place like the back of my hand during the weeks we lived there. I need to go back and visit a few people and would love to someday just go up and offer snacks and prayers to the families camped out in the picu. I hope you love your new job more everyday, and that in two weeks your roses are beautiful.

Since Sara was in Children's so many times over the course of her illness, I actually grew to love it there. I've been considering trying to find a job there. My younger daughter volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your job title?
Thanks, Sheila, I do love my job! Annie, as I told you in the email I sent you, if you do visit the hospital, come see me!
ReplyDeleteValerie, I am a Credentialing Coordinator for Medical Staff. I had also thought about checking the Ronald McDonald House for some volunteer work and may yet. It's just a few blocks from the hospital. I was so excited to hear that I would be working in Children's Hospital! I have always love the medical field and I guess, I am - sort of - in that field now.
Glad that things are going well at your new job. And working volunteer time and exercise in will be two great benefits! :)
